Bill Conte, CPA and founder of ValueMaster, has been a full-time practitioner since 1988. Prior to starting his practice, he filled the position of accounting director at Vanderbilt University and also served as the CPA of a non-profit organization. Today, he continues to serve clients who have been with him since the beginning. He knows the importance of creating loyalty and trust with his clients.

Bill started VaslueMaster to fill the need for a community of professionals with access to knowledge and resources that may not otherwise be readily available. He is currently assembling a team of key personnel to create a community of like-minded individuals from varying fields of expertise to help each other in growing their respective businesses.

His intent is to share his personal business expertise along wioth the expertise of others to create an environment of learning, support, and business growth for weveryone who joins ValueMaster.

What are some of the issues and challenges facing sole practitioners today?

Sole practitioners are in a real bind. Competition from QuickBooks and TurboTax, as well as ADP and Paycheck has eroded much of the bread and butter sources of revenue for a local firm. Tax preparation firms do not have the registration requirements or educational demands the sole practitioner faces.

In order to increase revenues, the local firm must be able to differentiate itself from the crowd. It cannot become a commodity. The big question has been how to do this. Traditional concentration on compliance has become a dead end. Other less qualified individuals and organizations can provide compliance service.

The sole practitioner also must try to decode all the deceptive advertisements luring her in with promises of instant success. Are they for real? Or is it just so much fluff? Who will tell you which might be valid?
